The American Dream: Love, Lust, and Lies

Born into a poor immigrant family, Charles works diligently to rise out of poverty. Because of this determination, he graduates from a university. While he is attending there, he meets the love of his life, Joann, who is from the opposite end of the social and economic spectrum.

After graduation, Charles and Joann are married. They purchase Joann’s dreamhouse, an idyllic home in the neighborhood where she grew up. The happy couple has two wonderful children, Elizabeth and Edward. Joann becomes a professor at her alma mater while Charles is a traveling salesman achieving his childhood goal of living an affluent lifestyle. Their lives cannot get any better than this! But can things get worse?

After the children grow up and move away, Joann commits an “indiscretion” which causes the couple’s model marriage to crumble. Charles is diagnosed with a potentially fatal disease. Will Joann be able to make the necessary amends for Charles to be willing to restore their marriage? Will Charles beat the doctor’s diagnosis and go back to living the American Dream?

The American Dream: Love, Lust, and Lies is a vivid, thought-provoking story that challenges the notion that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence! But even if it is, what will it require to keep it that way?

The American Dream Love, Lies and Lust Reviews

What a great book full of excellent life lessons! Once I started reading this book, I literally could not put it down. Mr. Miller has an awesome style of writing that compels the reader to contemplate their own life. If everyone took to heart the author’s message in this book, the world would be a much better place to live. Can’t wait for his next book!! – Reviewed by Rick via Amazon

In his debut book, Lloyd Miller achieves a surprising success. With the subtlety of a seasoned storyteller, Miller effortlessly unfolds a complex plot, driven by multiple three-dimensional, sympathetic characters whose lives entangle in a terrible but beautiful mosaic. What the reader experiences is not the good-guy-versus-bad-guy drama typical of most first-time authors. Instead, Miller delivers an original and unpredictable story of love, deception, tragedy, revenge and redemption. The reader will surely want to keep a highlighter nearby to underscore the many moments of surprise and insight crafted by Mr. Miller. – Reviewed by Charles Paul Conn, PhD via Amazon

This portrays how Charles started his life, lived his life, and how his life finally ended. Charles and Joann came from polar opposite upbringings. Met and married. They raised two children together, in a way they thought best. Charles made sure everyone was okay. Charles even made sure after he was gone his story continued to be told. Charles found a true friend when he needed one the most. His friend wasn't there for selfish reasons, which meant even more. He was an amazing person, he continued helping people after he was gone.

You never realize what one good deed will do for someone else's life. No one really knows how their story ends until you're gone, sometimes your story continues to be told when you are gone. It's your choice how you play your poker hand called life. Some play and loose, some play and win. See who wins and who loses in this story. Great book! Enjoy! – Reviewed by Amanda

This book had lots of little stories that kind of reminding me of a play of sorts. It kept my interest in the way it was written to tell a story of a man who endured heartache and the true physical pain of fighting an illness. He always put his children first and I think the connection he had with his family before it was torn apart shows what kind of man he was and became. I really liked this book and hope to read another by this same author. Others will like this book as well when given the chance to read it.- Reviewed by Anonymous

The American Dream tells of the life of Charles and Joann and how they touched the lives of those around them. It is easy to insert ourselves into the story and relate to the characters making the story our own. This is a story we can each relate to.

I really admire the love that Charles had for his wife Joann despite the tragedy that placed a distance between them. We could all benefit from love so strong. Reviewed by Michelle
