9th Bridge

Welcome to Bridgetown where gold flows like a river through the streets, into the pockets of the cunning and cruel. Nine great bridges span the river, and nine powerful individuals act as masters of the river, using the power and influence that comes with their title to their own ends.

At least until yesterday. Today the master of the ninth bridge is dead, his son missing and presumed eaten, and now all that power and influence are there for the taking. There isn’t a resident alive who wouldn’t try and claim that power for himself, and when the Mayor announces a competition to discover who will be the new Master of the Ninth Bridge, they will prove willing to climb over their neighbours to take the prize.

The competitors are driven, ambitious, and have years of connections, favours, and influence within the city to exploit to take the prize. Just imagine their faces if an upstart nobody from out of town was thrown into the mix. A Winters man, a family name almost as infamous as the town itself. As I recall, the last chap with such a name was burned alive in his own factory, but I’m sure this one will do a little better.

Well…He’s probably going to die. I give him

About the Author

Marc Townsend

An aspiring computer whiz who started writing as a way to avoid his dissertation, Marc Townsend, turned to writing as a career because his insanity had to go somewhere. He lives in Plymouth, England and currently resides in a rental house constantly invaded by his family, his friends, and a mad dog named Poppy. Entirely lacking in a sense of smell this often leads to such fond questions as ‘What does this unpleasant thing smell like’ with most answers invariably being, chicken. Most of his works are in the fantasy genre where the laws of physics are guidelines and Zombies have human rights too (being dead doesn’t stop them being human). After a few short story publications his début release  is The Ninth Bridge, a dark and witty novel involving characters who really should have known better than to leave him in charge.

9th Bridge Reviews

The 9th Bridge is a story of a man named Marian who is deceived by his sister-in-law when she lies to him about needing his help to get his brother out of debt, but in reality, she is just trying to have him killed by sending him to a different town to dig gold. Marian went through lots of twists and turns. He had to fight for his life. I cannot wait to be able to read the 10th Bridge by this author. This was a great book. -Reviewed by Anonymous via Amazon

The Bridgemaster is dead without an heir so the mayor sets up a competition for the right to be Bridgemaster of the 9th bridge. These bridges hold the key to gold and power that bring out the good, bad, possible, impossible, and anything in between. This also includes one Marion Winters trying to help his brother and his grandfather who once lived in Bridgetown. Does he stand a chance?

What will the ruthless people of Bridgetown do when they find out about Mr. Winters? What has to be done to stay in the running? This is one you won't want to put down wondering what twists and turns will be taken next. I can't wait for the 10th. -Reviewed by Anonymous via Amazon

Marc Townsend has built a fantastic town where anything can happen, anything! Bridgetown, a mix of "Forge of Empires" and Harry Potters Hogsworth, is filled with delight, danger, and intrigue. This is a must-read for any fantasy reader.

9th Bridge is well written, filled with characters one wants to know better. Twists and turns leave one breathless, eager to continue onward, reading into the dark of night, unable to stop.

As a computer whiz, Townsend has given us a book that will translate into a game that will carry his legacy. Can hardly wait to see what his imagination will take us next. -Reviewed by Anonymous via Amazon

Reading the "9th Bridge", is like stepping into a world you don't want to leave. Main character, Marian, is the reluctant hero, one we have empathy with as he goes from contest to contest to become owner of the 9th Bridge and all riches that it entails. Marc Townsend has built a place where only the strong can dwell. A place we will want to visit again and again. We hope he will continue on because one book is not enough. -Reviewed by Anonymous via Amazon

Mariam Winters knew he would do anything for his family, even if it meant going to Bridgetown. Despite all his family's heady warnings of the town. But things did happen to Miriam in Bridgetown, things that he would never forget, friends were found, and bonds were forged that meant everything to him.

9th Bridge shows us how working together and creating bonds with one another is the way that it should be. Taking a fiction story and letting it shape our everyday lives. ---Reviewed by Anonymous via Amazon Reviewed by Michelle

What a great book to adapt to a role-playing game or video game. Chock full of heroes, villains, spies, and pretty damsels with hearts to be won. From rags to riches and the good and the misfortunes that come with it. Has it all for the fantasy-minded. Great read. - Reviewed by Ann
