Books Books and More Books
As a child when I was asked what I wanted for Christmas my answer was always the same: BOOKS, BOOKS, and MORE BOOKS. After a couple of years of giving this response, people stopped asking me and to my great delight, Christmas morning presented me with a most wonderful dilemma…which book to read first. Well, the years have rolled passed and I’m more mature now so when asked what I want as a gift for a special day my response is a little more refined, “A book would be nice.” And inside I’m still hopeful that soon I’ll be unwrapping a special edition of a classic novel, or the latest release of my favorite author.
I’ve had plenty of time to think of the reasons for my love of books and there are several but they all come down to the power of words. Words can take you anywhere and keep you there as long as you listen to them. Words have unlimited creative power, our very world was created by words. Words can make you laugh, or cry, they can make your world better or worse, they can even make you afraid. Words can…well…you get the idea…there is NO LIMIT to the power of words.
Words even retain their power long after we leave this earth. The words of the great authors are still impacting our lives. Many books, filled with wonderfully crafted words, have even increased in popularity decades after the author is gone. I doubt if those authors ever knew the magnitude of the impact their words would have on this world. I doubt if any author today truly understands how their words will live on after they move on.
When you write a book there are many uncertainties, who is going to read it? How many copies will I sell,? Will anyone like it? The questions are endless and most of these questions you will never find the answer to, but here is one thing you can know…your words have the power to do what you want them to do and your words will live on long after you are gone. So with that in mind just know that every word does matter…even yours! So start writing and leave behind a legacy of words that tell future generations that you were here and you left a gift for them BOOKS, BOOKS, and MORE BOOKS!
